WCB Painted Cthulhu Themed Monster Miniatures

WCB Gallery Thumnail
Mini: RAFM - M.U. Expedition to Egypt

This one almost made it into the undead gallery but I felt since the tentacles were very prominent and since it came from a M.U. Expedition set that I'd include it in with the Cthulhu monsters gallery instead. I have the other minis lying around from this set, but this is currently the only one I have painted. I originally painted this mini several years back with a rather bland paint job and figured it was time to give it another go. I stripped the paint, repainted it, and the result was much better! I am now wishing I had re-based it as well, but that is OK since I am happy with the result.

Mini: RAFM - Deep Ones Mutant Fishmen

This is one of three Deep Ones from the blister that I painted. They all were painted around the same time (1998-1999) and were some of the best minis I had painted at that time. I would like to get a hold of another pack of these to repaint at some point, but I'm happy enough with the paint on these to where I probably won't repaint them. Of the three, this is my least favorite though.

I like the fact that he's reading a book...cause that's what it's all about in Call of Cthulhu!

Of the three, this would have been my favorite if it wasn't for the fact that I don't care a whole lot for the pose of the mini.

Mini: RAFM - Flying Polyp, Aerial Horror

This was done a while back as are most of my existing painted Cthulhu minis. I'm in the process of repainting a few of these, though I may leave this one as is. I'm not terribly unhappy with the paint on this one, but I may eventually try and buy another one to paint since I think I can do better now.

Mini: Greandier Nightmares(?) - Tentacled Horror(?)

I may have gotten the name wrong on this mini, but I'm fairly sure it's from the Grenadier Nightmares line of minis. Of all my older painted minis that I still own, this one is my favorite. I pulled off the 'skin' really well, and the 'brain' in the back looks really gross (the picture doesn't really do it justice). The only thing I'd change is at the time I only used gloss sealer, while now I would choose to use matte sealer and simply hand-paint the gloss areas where needed.

Mini: RAFM - Shoggoth, Protoplasmic Horror

I'd love a shot at redoing this mini. Many of the pictures and minis I have seen to date of Shoggoths paint them as brown, red or green. The book descriptions I've read portrays them (mostly) as being black. I attempted to paint this one black, but with an underlying sense of jelly-like substance. I partially succeeded I think, but I could do better now that I know a lot more than I did about painting back then.

Mini: D&D Miniature (DDM) - Ochre Jelly

This mini was painted as an entry in the Hordelings Against the Giants Common Painting Challenge. I had wanted to paint one of these up like a Shoggoth. Even though the miniature has no 'mouths' I still think it makes a great proxy for a small Shoggoth. The picture does not do the paint justice...the 'eyes' were done with bright red, then a coat of Blazing Orange (GW Paints?) and finally a coat of red ink. The result almost looks like they glow. I am exceptionally happy with how this miniature turned out.
